Completing your profile
Your profile is the page buyers land on when they want to know more about you. A complete profile builds trust, helps buyers decide to visit, and tells Smiths Guide what you specialise in so we can match you to the right enquiries.
Details managed by Smiths Guide
Some details are set during onboarding and are managed by Smiths Guide rather than edited directly by you. These appear on your profile automatically and include:
- —Business name — the name of your shop as it appears on your public profile and in search results
- —Address — your full trading address, used for the map on your profile page and location-based search
- —Account email — the email address associated with your Smiths Guide account
- —Account phone — the phone number registered at onboarding
To update any of these details, contact us. Changes to your business name or address in particular can affect how you appear in location-based search, so we handle these manually.
Fields you can edit
You can update these from your dashboard at any time. Changes take effect immediately on your public profile.
Business description
Tell buyers about your shop — your history, what you specialise in, and what sets you apart. This is the first thing buyers read when they visit your profile page, so write it as you would introduce yourself to a new customer. Three or four sentences is enough.
Enquiry phone and email
These are the contact details shown to buyers on your profile page and on individual listing pages. They are separate from your account phone and email — they exist specifically for customer enquiries.
If you want calls and emails from buyers to reach a different number or inbox than your account details — for example, a dedicated shop line or an enquiries address — set them here. Both are optional, but at least one contact method should be set so buyers can reach you.
Established year
The year you opened. Shown on your profile page as “Est. [year]”. Buyers place value on longevity — if you've been trading for decades, say so.
Social media
Instagram and Facebook links. If you post regularly, these give buyers a way to see more of your stock and style before they visit. Enter the full URL to your page.
Specialisms
Select everything that genuinely describes what you do. Options include:
- —Engagement rings
- —Wedding & eternity rings
- —Pre-owned jewellery
- —Antique & vintage
- —Bespoke & custom
- —Watches
- —Diamonds
- —Coloured gemstones
You can also add a free-text specialism if yours isn't listed. Specialisms appear on your public profile as tags and help Smiths Guide understand what kind of buyers to direct to you.
Services offered
Select the services you offer in addition to selling. Options include:
- —Valuations
- —Repairs & restoration
- —Engraving
- —Ring resizing
- —Remodelling
- —Sourcing
Services are shown on your public profile and help buyers understand the breadth of what you offer. A buyer searching for a valuer or a jeweller who can resize a ring is looking for exactly what many of our members provide.
Trade memberships
If you hold a recognised trade membership or qualification, add it here. Options include NAJ member, GIA Graduate Gemologist, RJC certified, BHI member, BADA member, and LAPADA member. These are displayed on your profile as trust signals — buyers who are unfamiliar with your shop use them as a proxy for credibility.
Opening hours and holiday closures
Enter your standard opening hours as free text — for example, “Mon–Fri 9am–5pm, Saturday 10am–4pm, Sunday Closed”. Use the holiday closures field for any seasonal exceptions, such as Christmas or bank holiday periods.
Buyers planning a visit need to know when you're open. Missing hours are a friction point that can prevent an enquiry from turning into a visit.
Why completeness matters
A complete profile does three things a partial profile cannot:
- —It builds trust — buyers researching a jeweller before visiting want to see a description, a history, and credentials. A thin profile raises questions a complete one answers.
- —It helps buyers decide to act — opening hours, a phone number, and a clear description remove the uncertainty that stops a browser from becoming an enquiry.
- —It tells us what you do — your specialisms and services shape how Smiths Guide presents you. The more we know about what you offer, the better we can direct the right buyers to you.
Completing your profile takes about fifteen minutes. It's the highest-return use of your time on Smiths Guide outside of your listings themselves.
