Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about finding and buying from independent jewellers. If you have a question that is not answered here, get in touch.
How it works
What is Smiths Guide?+
Smiths Guide is a discovery platform for independent fine jewellers and watch specialists across the UK. You search by what you're looking for, your budget, and your location — then buy direct from the jeweller, in person.
How do I find a jeweller near me?+
Use the search on the homepage. Select the type of piece you're looking for, enter your town or postcode, and set a price range. Results show jewellers and listings within your chosen distance.
Can I buy online?+
Smiths Guide is built around the in-person experience. You browse and discover online, then contact the jeweller directly — by phone or email — to arrange a viewing or purchase in their shop.
How do I contact a jeweller?+
Every listing page shows a contact button with the jeweller's phone number and email address. You can call or email them directly — there's no middleman.
Independent jewellers
Why buy from an independent jeweller?+
Independent jewellers offer expertise, craftsmanship, and a level of personal service that the high street simply can't match. Many carry pieces you won't find anywhere else — and because you're buying direct, the person you speak to is usually the maker or the buyer who chose the piece themselves.
How do I know the jewellers are genuine?+
Every jeweller on Smiths Guide is verified before their listing goes live. We check that they are a genuine independent fine jeweller or watch specialist with a physical shop in the UK.
What kinds of jewellers are on Smiths Guide?+
Independent fine jewellers and watch specialists — from contemporary designers to antique and estate specialists, bespoke makers, and watch dealers. All are UK-based with a physical shop.
Saving and searching
Can I save listings I like?+
Yes. Create a free account and you can heart any listing to save it to your favourites. You'll also receive an email if the price drops on something you've saved.
Can I save a search?+
Yes. Once you've run a search, you can save it and we'll email you when a new listing matches — useful if you're looking for something specific and want to be the first to know.
Do I need an account to search?+
No — searching and browsing are open to everyone. You only need a free account to save favourites and receive notifications.
Buying direct
What does 'buy direct' mean?+
It means you deal directly with the jeweller — no platform fees, no checkout, no intermediary. You contact them, arrange a viewing, and complete the purchase however suits you both. The relationship is entirely between you and the jeweller.
Does Smiths Guide take a commission?+
No. Smiths Guide earns nothing from your purchase. There are no transaction fees, no buyer's premiums, and no hidden charges. We charge jewellers a simple monthly membership fee — that's it.
What if something goes wrong with a purchase?+
Your transaction is directly with the jeweller, so any after-sales questions should go to them in the first instance. As with any purchase from a UK retailer, your statutory consumer rights apply.
